26.41

surah 26 - verse 41

Arberry Then, when the sorcerers came, they said to Pharaoh, 'Shall we indeed have a wage, if we should be the victors?'
Maududi When the magicians came forth (for the encounter) they said to Pharaoh: "Is there a reward for us if we triumph?"
Pickthall And when the wizards came they said unto Pharaoh: Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners?
Sahih And when the magicians arrived, they said to Pharaoh, "Is there indeed for us a reward if we are the predominant?"
Yusuf Ali So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Pharaoh: "Of course - shall we have a (suitable) reward if we win?

26.42

surah 26 - verse 42

Arberry He said, 'Yes indeed; and you shall then be among the near-stationed.'
Maududi He said: "Yes, you will then become those near-stationed to me."
Pickthall He said: Aye, and ye will then surely be of those brought near (to me).
Sahih He said, "Yes, and indeed, you will then be of those near [to me]."
Yusuf Ali He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)."

26.43

surah 26 - verse 43

Arberry Moses said to them, 'Cast you down what you will cast.'
Maududi Moses said to them: "Throw down whatever you wish to throw."
Pickthall Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw!
Sahih Moses said to them, "Throw whatever you will throw."
Yusuf Ali Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!"

26.44

surah 26 - verse 44

Arberry So they cast their ropes and their staffs, and said, 'By the might of Pharaoh we shall be the victors.'
Maududi Thereupon they threw down their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the glory of Pharaoh, we shall prevail."
Pickthall Then they threw down their cords and their staves and said: By Pharaoh's might, lo! we verily are the winners.
Sahih So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant."
Yusuf Ali So they threw their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the might of Pharaoh, it is we who will certainly win!"

26.45

surah 26 - verse 45

Arberry Then Moses cast his staff and lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention;
Maududi Thereafter, Moses threw down his rod and behold, it went about swallowing up all the false devices they had contrived.
Pickthall Then Moses threw his staff and lo! it swallowed that which they did falsely show.
Sahih Then Moses threw his staff, and at once it devoured what they falsified.
Yusuf Ali Then Moses threw his rod, when, behold, it straightway swallows up all the falsehoods which they fake!

26.46

Arberry so the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves.
Maududi Thereupon the magicians fell down in prostration,
Pickthall And the wizards were flung prostrate,
Sahih So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah].

surah 26 - verse 49

Arberry Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed him before I gave you leave. Why, he is the chief of you, the same that taught you sorcery; now you shall know! I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.'
Maududi Pharaoh said: "You accepted the word of Moses even before I granted you the leave to do so. Surely he is your chief who has taught you magic. Soon shall you come to know. I shall cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and shall crucify all of you."
Pickthall (Pharaoh) said: Ye put your faith in him before I give you leave. Lo! he doubtless is your chief who taught you magic! But verily ye shall come to know. Verily I will cut off your hands and your feet alternately, and verily I will crucify you every one.
Sahih [Pharaoh] said, "You believed Moses before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all."
Yusuf Ali Said (Pharaoh): "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? surely he is your leader, who has taught you sorcery! but soon shall ye know! Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross!"

26.50

surah 26 - verse 50

Arberry They said, 'There is no harm; surely unto our Lord we are turning.
Maududi They said: "We do not care, for we are bound to return to our Lord,
Pickthall They said: It is no hurt, for lo! unto our Lord we shall return.
Sahih They said, "No harm. Indeed, to our Lord we will return.
Yusuf Ali They said: "No matter! for us, we shall but return to our Lord!

26.51

surah 26 - verse 51

Arberry We are eager that our Lord should forgive us our offences, for that we are the first of the believers.'
Maududi and we surely expect that Our Lord will forgive us our sins for we are the first ones to believe."
Pickthall Lo! we ardently hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we are the first of the believers.
Sahih Indeed, we aspire that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we were the first of the believers."
Yusuf Ali "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!"

26.52

surah 26 - verse 52

Arberry Also We revealed unto Moses, 'Go with My servants by night; surely you will be followed.'
Maududi We revealed to Moses: "Set forth with My servants by night for you will be pursued."
Pickthall And We inspired Moses, saying: Take away My slaves by night, for ye will be pursued.
Sahih And We inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants; indeed, you will be pursued."
Yusuf Ali By inspiration we told Moses: "Travel by night with my servants; for surely ye shall be pursued."

26.53

Maududi Then Pharaoh sent heralds to the cities (to mobilise troops)

Arberry and we are a host on our guard.'
Maududi But we are a numerous host, ever on guard."

Arberry So We expelled them from gardens and fountains,
Maududi Thus did We drive them out of their gardens and springs

26.59

surah 26 - verse 59

Arberry even so, and We bequeathed them upon the Children of Israel.
Maududi This happened with them; (but on the other hand), We enabled the Children of Israel to inherit those bounties.
Pickthall Thus (were those things taken from them) and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit them.
Sahih Thus. And We caused to inherit it the Children of Israel.
Yusuf Ali Thus it was, but We made the Children of Israel inheritors of such things.

26.60

Arberry Then they followed them at the sunrise;
Maududi At sunrise they set off in pursuit of them
Pickthall And they overtook them at sunrise.
Sahih So they pursued them at sunrise.
