Arberry Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.
Maududi Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe.
Pickthall Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.
Sahih Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
Yusuf Ali Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.

Arberry Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate.
Maududi Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate.
Pickthall And lo, thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
Sahih And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful.

Maududi The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers.
Pickthall (The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah).

Arberry I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being.
Maududi I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe.
Pickthall And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.
Sahih And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

Arberry What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting,
Maududi What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun
Pickthall Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight?
Sahih Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves,
Yusuf Ali "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves?

Arberry and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever?
Maududi and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever,
Pickthall And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever?
Sahih And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally?

Arberry They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers;
Maududi They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not.
Pickthall They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach;
Sahih They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors.
Yusuf Ali They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers!

Arberry this is nothing but the habit of the ancients,

Arberry So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.
Maududi Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe.
Pickthall And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.
Sahih And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
Yusuf Ali So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.
