Surah Ash Shuaraa (The Poets)

26.101

surah 26 - verse 101

Arberry no loyal friend.
Maududi nor do we have a truly sincere friend.
Pickthall Nor any loving friend.
Sahih And not a devoted friend.
Yusuf Ali "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us).

26.102

surah 26 - verse 102

Arberry O that we might return again, and be among the believers!'
Maududi If only we could return we would be among the believers."
Pickthall Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers!
Sahih Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... "
Yusuf Ali "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'"

26.103

surah 26 - verse 103

Arberry Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.
Maududi Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe.
Pickthall Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers!
Sahih Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
Yusuf Ali Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe.

26.104

surah 26 - verse 104

Arberry Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate.
Maududi Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate.
Pickthall And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
Sahih And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful.

26.105

surah 26 - verse 105

Arberry The people of Noah cried lies to the Envoys
Maududi The people of Noah gave the lie to the Messengers.
Pickthall Noah's folk denied the messengers (of Allah),
Sahih The people of Noah denied the messengers

Arberry when their brother Noah said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing?
Maududi Recall when their brother Noah said to them: "Do you have no fear?
Pickthall When their brother Noah said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)?
Sahih When their brother Noah said to them, "Will you not fear Allah?
Yusuf Ali Behold, their brother Noah said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)?

Arberry I am for you a faithful Messenger,
Maududi I am a trustworthy Messenger to you;

Sahih Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.

Arberry I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being;
Maududi I seek of you no reward for this: my reward is with none except the Lord of the Universe.
Pickthall And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.
Sahih And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
Yusuf Ali "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds:

Arberry so fear you God, and obey you me.'

Arberry They said, 'Shall we believe thee, whom the vilest follow?'
Maududi They answered: "Shall we accept you even though it is the meanest of people who follow you?"
Pickthall They said: Shall we put faith in thee, when the lowest (of the people) follow thee?
Sahih They said, "Should we believe you while you are followed by the lowest [class of people]?"
Yusuf Ali They said: "Shall we believe in thee when it is the meanest that follow thee?"

Arberry He said, 'What knowledge have I of that they have been doing?
Maududi Noah said: "What knowledge do I have about their deeds?
Pickthall He said: And what knowledge have I of what they may have been doing (in the past)?
Sahih He said, "And what is my knowledge of what they used to do?
Yusuf Ali He said: "And what do I know as to what they do?

26.113

surah 26 - verse 113

Arberry Their account falls only upon my Lord, were you but aware.
Maududi It is only for my Lord to take account of them. Would that you made use of your understanding!
Pickthall Lo! their reckoning is my Lord's concern, if ye but knew;
Sahih Their account is only upon my Lord, if you [could] perceive.
Yusuf Ali "Their account is only with my Lord, if ye could (but) understand.

26.114

surah 26 - verse 114

Arberry I would not drive away the believers;
Maududi It is not for me to repel those who choose to believe.
Pickthall And I am not (here) to repulse believers.
Sahih And I am not one to drive away the believers.
Yusuf Ali "I am not one to drive away those who believe.

26.115

surah 26 - verse 115

Arberry 'I am naught but a plain warner.'
Maududi I am none but a plain warner."
Pickthall I am only a plain warner.
Sahih I am only a clear warner."
Yusuf Ali "I am sent only to warn plainly in public."

26.116

surah 26 - verse 116

Arberry They said, 'If thou givest not over, Noah, thou shalt assuredly be one of the stoned.'
Maududi They said: "O Noah! If you do not desist, you will certainly become one of the accursed."
Pickthall They said: If thou cease not, O Noah, thou wilt surely be among those stoned (to death).
Sahih They said, "If you do not desist, O Noah, you will surely be of those who are stoned."
Yusuf Ali They said: "If thou desist not, O Noah! thou shalt be stoned (to death)."

26.117

surah 26 - verse 117

Arberry He said, 'My Lord, my people have cried me lies,
Maududi He said: "My Lord! My people have branded me a liar.
Pickthall He said: My Lord! Lo! my own folk deny me.
Sahih He said, "My Lord, indeed my people have denied me.
Yusuf Ali He said: "O my Lord! truly my people have rejected me.

26.118

surah 26 - verse 118

Arberry so give true deliverance between me and them, and deliver me and the believers that are with me.
Maududi So pass a clear judgement between me and them and rescue me and the believers with me."
Pickthall Therefor judge Thou between us, a (conclusive) judgment, and save me and those believers who are with me.
Sahih Then judge between me and them with decisive judgement and save me and those with me of the believers."
Yusuf Ali "Judge Thou, then, between me and them openly, and deliver me and those of the Believers who are with me."

26.119

surah 26 - verse 119

Arberry So We delivered him, and those with him, in the laden ship,
Maududi Thereafter We rescued him and those who were with him in the laden Ark
Pickthall And We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.
Sahih So We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.
Yusuf Ali So We delivered him and those with him, in the Ark filled (with all creatures).

26.120

Arberry then afterwards We drowned the rest.
Maududi and drowned the rest.
Pickthall Then afterward We drowned the others.
Sahih Then We drowned thereafter the remaining ones.
Yusuf Ali Thereafter We drowned those who remained behind.
