Surah Al Waqia (The Inevitable Event)

56.21

surah 56 - verse 21

Arberry and such flesh of fowl as they desire,
Maududi and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat;
Pickthall And flesh of fowls that they desire.
Sahih And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire.
Yusuf Ali And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire.

56.22

surah 56 - verse 22

Arberry and wide-eyed houris
Maududi and there shall be wide-eyed maidens,
Pickthall And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes,
Sahih And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes,
Yusuf Ali And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,-

56.23

surah 56 - verse 23

Arberry as the likeness of hidden pearls,
Maududi beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells.
Pickthall Like unto hidden pearls,
Sahih The likenesses of pearls well-protected,
Yusuf Ali Like unto Pearls well-guarded.

56.24

surah 56 - verse 24

Arberry a recompense for that they laboured.
Maududi All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds.
Pickthall Reward for what they used to do.
Sahih As reward for what they used to do.
Yusuf Ali A Reward for the deeds of their past (life).

56.25

surah 56 - verse 25

Arberry Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin,
Maududi There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech.
Pickthall There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination
Sahih They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin -
Yusuf Ali Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,-

Arberry only the saying 'Peace, Peace!'
Maududi All talk will be sound and upright.
Pickthall (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace.
Sahih Only a saying: "Peace, peace."
Yusuf Ali Only the saying, "Peace! Peace".

Arberry The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!)
Maududi As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right!
Pickthall And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand?
Sahih The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?
Yusuf Ali The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand?

Maududi They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees,
Pickthall Among thornless lote-trees
Sahih [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed
Yusuf Ali (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns,

Sahih And [banana] trees layered [with fruit]

Sahih And shade extended
Yusuf Ali In shade long-extended,

56.31

Arberry and outpoured waters,
Maududi and gushing water,
Pickthall And water gushing,
Sahih And water poured out
Yusuf Ali By water flowing constantly,

56.32

Arberry and fruits abounding
Maududi and abundant fruit,
Pickthall And fruit in plenty
Sahih And fruit, abundant [and varied],
Yusuf Ali And fruit in abundance.

56.33

surah 56 - verse 33

Arberry unfailing, unforbidden,
Maududi never-ending and unforbidden.
Pickthall Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden,
Sahih Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden,
Yusuf Ali Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden,

Arberry and upraised couches.
Maududi They shall be on upraised couches,
Pickthall And raised couches;
Sahih And [upon] beds raised high.
Yusuf Ali And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high.

56.35

surah 56 - verse 35

Arberry Perfectly We formed them, perfect,
Maududi and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh,
Pickthall Lo! We have created them a (new) creation
Sahih Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation
Yusuf Ali We have created (their Companions) of special creation.

56.36

Arberry and We made them spotless virgins,
Maududi and shall have made them virgins,
Pickthall And made them virgins,
Sahih And made them virgins,
Yusuf Ali And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), -

56.37

surah 56 - verse 37

Arberry chastely amorous,
Maududi intensely loving and of matching age.
Pickthall Lovers, friends,
Sahih Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age,
Yusuf Ali Beloved (by nature), equal in age,-

56.38

Arberry like of age for the Companions of the Right.
Maududi All this will be for the People on the Right;
Pickthall For those on the right hand;
Sahih For the companions of the right [who are]
Yusuf Ali For the Companions of the Right Hand.

Maududi a large throng from the ancients,
Pickthall A multitude of those of old
Sahih A company of the former peoples
Yusuf Ali A (goodly) number from those of old,
