Surah As Saaffat (Those who set the ranks)

37.61

surah 37 - verse 61

Arberry for the like of this let the workers work.'
Maududi For the like of it should the workers work.
Pickthall For the like of this, then, let the workers work.
Sahih For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work.
Yusuf Ali For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive.

37.62

surah 37 - verse 62

Arberry Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum?
Maududi Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum?
Pickthall Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum?
Sahih Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum?
Yusuf Ali Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum?

37.63

surah 37 - verse 63

Arberry We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers.
Maududi We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers.
Pickthall Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers.
Sahih Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers.
Yusuf Ali For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers.

37.64

surah 37 - verse 64

Arberry It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell;
Maududi It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell.
Pickthall Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell.
Sahih Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire,
Yusuf Ali For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire:

37.65

Arberry its spathes are as the heads of Satans,
Maududi Its spathes are like the heads of satans.
Pickthall Its crop is as it were the heads of devils
Sahih Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils.
Yusuf Ali The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils:

37.66

Arberry and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies,
Maududi (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it.
Pickthall And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith.
Sahih And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies.
Yusuf Ali Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith.

37.67

surah 37 - verse 67

Arberry then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water,
Maududi Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water.
Pickthall And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water
Sahih Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water.
Yusuf Ali Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water.

37.68

surah 37 - verse 68

Arberry then their return is unto Hell.
Maududi Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell.
Pickthall And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell.
Sahih Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire.
Yusuf Ali Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire.

37.69

surah 37 - verse 69

Arberry They found their fathers erring,
Maududi These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error,
Pickthall They indeed found their fathers astray,
Sahih Indeed they found their fathers astray.
Yusuf Ali Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path;

37.70

surah 37 - verse 70

Arberry and they run in their footsteps.
Maududi and they are running in their footsteps.
Pickthall But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps.
Sahih So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.
Yusuf Ali So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps!

37.71

surah 37 - verse 71

Arberry Before them erred most of the ancients,
Maududi Before them a multitude of people of olden times had erred,
Pickthall And verily most of the men of old went astray before them,
Sahih And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples,
Yusuf Ali And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;-

37.72

surah 37 - verse 72

Arberry and We sent among them warners;
Maududi and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them.
Pickthall And verily We sent among them warners.
Sahih And We had already sent among them warners.
Yusuf Ali But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;-

37.73

surah 37 - verse 73

Arberry and behold, how was the end of them that were warned,
Maududi Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned,
Pickthall Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned,
Sahih Then look how was the end of those who were warned -
Yusuf Ali Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),-

37.74

surah 37 - verse 74

Arberry except for God's sincere servants.
Maududi except for the chosen servants of Allah?
Pickthall Save single-minded slaves of Allah.
Sahih But not the chosen servants of Allah.
Yusuf Ali Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah.

37.75

surah 37 - verse 75

Arberry Noah called to Us; and how excellent were the Answerers!
Maududi Noah had called upon Us (earlier). See, how excellent We were in answering him!
Pickthall And Noah verily prayed unto Us, and gracious was the Hearer of his prayer
Sahih And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders.
Yusuf Ali (In the days of old), Noah cried to Us, and We are the best to hear prayer.

37.76

surah 37 - verse 76

Arberry And We delivered him and his people from the great distress,
Maududi We delivered him and his household from the great calamity;
Pickthall And We saved him and his household from the great distress,
Sahih And We saved him and his family from the great affliction.
Yusuf Ali And We delivered him and his people from the Great Calamity,

37.77

surah 37 - verse 77

Arberry and We made his seed the survivors,
Maududi and made his offspring the only ones to survive,
Pickthall And made his seed the survivors,
Sahih And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]
Yusuf Ali And made his progeny to endure (on this earth);

37.78

surah 37 - verse 78

Arberry and left for him among the later folk
Maududi and We established for him a good name among posterity.
Pickthall And left for him among the later folk (the salutation):
Sahih And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
Yusuf Ali And We left (this blessing) for him among generations to come in later times:

37.79

surah 37 - verse 79

Arberry 'Peace be upon Noah among all beings!'
Maududi Peace be upon Noah among all the nations.
Pickthall Peace be unto Noah among the peoples!
Sahih "Peace upon Noah among the worlds."
Yusuf Ali "Peace and salutation to Noah among the nations!"

37.80

surah 37 - verse 80

Arberry Even so We recompense the good-doers;
Maududi Thus do We reward all those who do good.
Pickthall Lo! thus do We reward the good.
Sahih Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Yusuf Ali Thus indeed do we reward those who do right.
