Maududi	and by the night as it envelopes the sun;
Pickthall	And the night when it enshroudeth him,
Sahih	And [by] the night when it covers it

surah 91 - verse 8

Arberry	and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing!
Maududi	and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety:
Pickthall	And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it.
Sahih	And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness,
Yusuf Ali	And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;-

surah 91 - verse 9

Arberry	Prosperous is he who purifies it,
Maududi	He who purifies it will prosper,
Pickthall	He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow,
Sahih	He has succeeded who purifies it,
Yusuf Ali	Truly he succeeds that purifies it,

surah 91 - verse 10

Maududi	and he who suppresses it will be ruined.
Pickthall	And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it.
Sahih	And he has failed who instills it [with corruption].
Yusuf Ali	And he fails that corrupts it!

surah 91 - verse 11

Arberry	Thamood cried lies in their insolence
Maududi	In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie
Pickthall	(The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride,
Sahih	Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression,
Yusuf Ali	The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing,

surah 91 - verse 12

Arberry	when the most wretched of them uprose,
Maududi	when their arch-criminal rose up in rage.
Pickthall	When the basest of them broke forth
Sahih	When the most wretched of them was sent forth.
Yusuf Ali	Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety).

surah 91 - verse 13

Arberry	then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!'
Maududi	Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!”
Pickthall	And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink!
Sahih	And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink."
Yusuf Ali	But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!"

surah 91 - verse 14

Arberry	But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them:
Maududi	But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel. For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the ground.
Pickthall	But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings).
Sahih	But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them].
Yusuf Ali	Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)!

surah 91 - verse 15

Arberry	and He fears not the issue thereof.
Maududi	He has no fear of its sequel.
Pickthall	He dreadeth not the sequel (of events).
Sahih	And He does not fear the consequence thereof.
Yusuf Ali	And for Him is no fear of its consequences.
