Sahih | Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established." |
Yusuf Ali | "O our Lord! cover (us) with Thy Forgiveness - me, my parents, and (all) Believers, on the Day that the Reckoning will be established! |

Arberry | Deem not that God is heedless of what the evildoers work; He is only deferring them to a day when eyes shall stare, |
Maududi | Do not think Allah is heedless of the evil deeds in which the evil-doers are engaged. He is merely granting them respite until a Day when their eyes shall continue to stare in horror, |
Pickthall | Deem not that Allah is unaware of what the wicked do. He but giveth them a respite till a day when eyes will stare (in terror), |
Sahih | And never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror]. |
Yusuf Ali | Think not that Allah doth not heed the deeds of those who do wrong. He but giveth them respite against a Day when the eyes will fixedly stare in horror,- |
14.43
surah 14 - verse 43

Arberry | when they shall run with necks outstretched and heads erect, their glances never returned on themselves, their hearts void. |
Maududi | when they shall keep pressing ahead in haste, their heads lifted up, their gaze directed forward, unable to look away from what they behold, their hearts utterly void. |
Pickthall | As they come hurrying on in fear, their heads upraised, their gaze returning not to them, and their hearts as air. |
Sahih | Racing ahead, their heads raised up, their glance does not come back to them, and their hearts are void. |
Yusuf Ali | They running forward with necks outstretched, their heads uplifted, their gaze returning not towards them, and their hearts a (gaping) void! |
14.44
surah 14 - verse 44

Arberry | And warn mankind of the day when the chastisement comes on them, And those who did evil shall say, 'Our Lord, defer us to a near term, and we will answer Thy call, and follow the Messengers.' 'Ah, but did you not swear aforetime there should be no removing for you? |
Maududi | (O Muhammad), warn mankind of the Day when a severe chastisement shall overtake them, and the wrong-doers will say: "Our Lord, grant us respite for a short while; we shall respond to Your call and will follow Your Messengers." (But they will be clearly told): "Are you not the same who swore earlier that they shall never suffer decline?" |
Pickthall | And warn mankind of a day when the doom will come upon them, and those who did wrong will say: Our Lord! Reprieve us for a little while. We will obey Thy call and will follow the messengers. (It will be answered): Did ye not swear before that there would be no end for you? |
Sahih | And, [O Muhammad], warn the people of a Day when the punishment will come to them and those who did wrong will say, "Our Lord, delay us for a short term; we will answer Your call and follow the messengers." [But it will be said], "Had you not sworn, before, that for you there would be no cessation? |
Yusuf Ali | So warn mankind of the Day when the Wrath will reach them: then will the wrong-doers say: "Our Lord! respite us (if only) for a short term: we will answer Thy call, and follow the messengers!" "What! were ye not wont to swear aforetime that ye should suffer no decline? |
14.45
surah 14 - verse 45

Arberry | And you dwelt in the dwelling-places of those who wronged themselves, and it became clear to you how We did with them, and how We struck similitudes for you. |
Maududi | You said so even though you had lived in the dwellings of those who had wronged themselves (by sinning), and you were aware how We dealt with them, and We had even explained to you all this by giving examples. |
Pickthall | And (have ye not) dwelt in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves (of old) and (hath it not) become plain to you how We dealt with them and made examples for you? |
Sahih | And you lived among the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it had become clear to you how We dealt with them. And We presented for you [many] examples." |
Yusuf Ali | "And ye dwelt in the dwellings of men who wronged their own souls; ye were clearly shown how We dealt with them; and We put forth (many) parables in your behoof!" |
14.46
surah 14 - verse 46

Arberry | They devised their devising, and their devising is known to God; though their devising were such as to remove mountains.' |
Maududi | Indeed the unbelievers contrived their plan, but it is in Allah's power to nullify their plan, even though their plans were such that would move even mountains. |
Pickthall | Verily they have plotted their plot, and their plot is with Allah, though their plot were one whereby the mountains should be moved. |
Sahih | And they had planned their plan, but with Allah is [recorded] their plan, even if their plan had been [sufficient] to do away with the mountains. |
Yusuf Ali | Mighty indeed were the plots which they made, but their plots were (well) within the sight of Allah, even though they were such as to shake the hills! |
14.47
surah 14 - verse 47

Arberry | So do not deem that God will fail in His promise to His Messengers; surely God is All-mighty, Vengeful. |
Maududi | So, do not think, (O Prophet), that Allah will go back upon His promise to His Messengers. Surely Allah is Mighty, Lord of retribution. |
Pickthall | So think not that Allah will fail to keep His promise to His messengers. Lo! Allah is Mighty, Able to Requite (the wrong). |
Sahih | So never think that Allah will fail in His promise to His messengers. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Owner of Retribution. |
Yusuf Ali | Never think that Allah would fail his messengers in His promise: for Allah is Exalted in power, - the Lord of Retribution. |
14.48
surah 14 - verse 48

Arberry | Upon the day the earth shall be changed to other than the earth, and the heavens and they sally forth unto God, the One, the Omnipotent. |
Maududi | (Do warn them of the) Day when the heavens and the earth shall be altogether changed; when all will appear fully exposed before Allah, the One, the Irresistible! |
Pickthall | On the day when the earth will be changed to other than the earth, and the heavens (also will be changed) and they will come forth unto Allah, the One, the Almighty, |
Sahih | [It will be] on the Day the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens [as well], and all creatures will come out before Allah, the One, the Prevailing. |
Yusuf Ali | One day the earth will be changed to a different earth, and so will be the heavens, and (men) will be marshalled forth, before Allah, the One, the Irresistible; |
14.49
surah 14 - verse 49

Arberry | that God may recompense every soul for its earnings; surely God is swift at the reckoning. |
Maududi | so that Allah may requite each person for his deeds. Allah is swift in reckoning. |
Pickthall | That Allah may repay each soul what it hath earned. Lo! Allah is swift at reckoning. |
Sahih | So that Allah will recompense every soul for what it earned. Indeed, Allah is swift in account. |
Yusuf Ali | That Allah may requite each soul according to its deserts; and verily Allah is swift in calling to account. |
14.52
surah 14 - verse 52

Arberry | This is a Message to be delivered to mankind that they may be warned by it, and that they may know that He is One God, and that all possessed of minds may remember. |
Maududi | This is a proclamation for all mankind that they may be warned by it, and that they may know that their God is none but the One True God, and that men of understanding may take heed. |
Pickthall | This is a clear message for mankind in order that they may be warned thereby, and that they may know that He is only One Allah, and that men of understanding may take heed. |
Sahih | This [Qur'an] is notification for the people that they may be warned thereby and that they may know that He is but one God and that those of understanding will be reminded. |
Yusuf Ali | Here is a Message for mankind: Let them take warning therefrom, and let them know that He is (no other than) One Allah: let men of understanding take heed. |
