surah 78 - verse 2

Maududi	Is it about the awesome tiding
Pickthall	(It is) of the awful tidings,
Sahih	About the great news -
Yusuf Ali	Concerning the Great News,

Maududi	that they are in utter disagreement?
Pickthall	Concerning which they are in disagreement.
Sahih	That over which they are in disagreement.
Yusuf Ali	About which they cannot agree.

Arberry	No indeed; they shall soon know!
Maududi	No indeed; soon will they come to know;
Pickthall	Nay, but they will come to know!
Sahih	No! They are going to know.
Yusuf Ali	Verily, they shall soon (come to) know!

78.12

Arberry	And We have built above you seven strong ones,
Maududi	and built above you seven strong firmaments,
Pickthall	And We have built above you seven strong (heavens),
Sahih	And constructed above you seven strong [heavens]
Yusuf Ali	And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments,

Maududi	and placed therein a hot, shining lamp,
Pickthall	And have appointed a dazzling lamp,
Sahih	And made [therein] a burning lamp

78.14

surah 78 - verse 14

Sahih	And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water

78.17

surah 78 - verse 17

Arberry	Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time,
Maududi	Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time;
Pickthall	Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time,
Sahih	Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time -
Yusuf Ali	Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed,

Arberry	the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops,
Maududi	the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes;
Pickthall	A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes,
Sahih	The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes
Yusuf Ali	The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds;

78.19

surah 78 - verse 19

Arberry	and heaven is opened, and become gates,
Maududi	and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors;
Pickthall	And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates,
Sahih	And the heaven is opened and will become gateways
Yusuf Ali	And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors,

78.20

surah 78 - verse 20

Arberry	and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour.
Maududi	and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage.
Pickthall	And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage.
Sahih	And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage.
Yusuf Ali	And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage.
