Surah At Tur (The Mount)

52.41

surah 52 - verse 41

Arberry Or is the Unseen in their keeping, and so they are writing it down?
Maududi Or is it that they have access to (the Truths in) the realm beyond sense-perception which they are writing down?
Pickthall Or possess they the Unseen so that they can write (it) down?
Sahih Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down?
Yusuf Ali Or that the Unseen in it their hands, and they write it down?

52.42

surah 52 - verse 42

Arberry Or desire they to outwit? The unbelievers, they are the outwitted.
Maududi Or are they contriving a stratagem against you? If so, that stratagem will rebound against the unbelievers.
Pickthall Or seek they to ensnare (the messenger)? But those who disbelieve, they are the ensnared!
Sahih Or do they intend a plan? But those who disbelieve - they are the object of a plan.
Yusuf Ali Or do they intend a plot (against thee)? But those who defy Allah are themselves involved in a Plot!

52.43

surah 52 - verse 43

Arberry Or have they a god, other than God? Glory be to God, above that which they associate!
Maududi Do they have any god other than Allah? Exalted be Allah above whatever they associate (with Him in His Divinity).
Pickthall Or have they any god beside Allah? Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)!
Sahih Or have they a deity other than Allah? Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.
Yusuf Ali Or have they a god other than Allah? Exalted is Allah far above the things they associate with Him!

52.44

surah 52 - verse 44

Arberry Even if they saw lumps falling from heaven, they would say, 'A massed cloud!'
Maududi (So obstinate are they that) even if they were to see some fragments of the sky falling down they would still say: “It is only a mass of cloud.”
Pickthall And if they were to see a fragment of the heaven falling, they would say: A heap of clouds.
Sahih And if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, "[It is merely] clouds heaped up."
Yusuf Ali Were they to see a piece of the sky falling (on them), they would (only) say: "Clouds gathered in heaps!"

52.45

surah 52 - verse 45

Arberry Then leave them, till they encounter their day wherein they shall be thunderstruck,
Maududi So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs when they shall be struck down,
Pickthall Then let them be (O Muhammad), till they meet their day, in which they will be thunder-stricken,
Sahih So leave them until they meet their Day in which they will be struck insensible -
Yusuf Ali So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs, wherein they shall (perforce) swoon (with terror),-

52.46

surah 52 - verse 46

Arberry the day when their guile shall avail them naught, and they shall not be helped.
Maududi when their stratagem shall be of no avail to them, nor shall they be succoured.
Pickthall A day in which their guile will naught avail them, nor will they be helped.
Sahih The Day their plan will not avail them at all, nor will they be helped.
Yusuf Ali The Day when their plotting will avail them nothing and no help shall be given them.

52.47

surah 52 - verse 47

Arberry And there surely awaits the evildoers a chastisement beyond even that, but most of them know it not.
Maududi Surely a chastisement awaits the wrong-doers even before the coming of that Day; but most of them do not know.
Pickthall And verily, for those who do wrong, there is a punishment beyond that. But most of them know not.
Sahih And indeed, for those who have wronged is a punishment before that, but most of them do not know.
Yusuf Ali And verily, for those who do wrong, there is another punishment besides this: But most of them understand not.

52.48

surah 52 - verse 48

Arberry And be thou patient under the judgment of thy Lord; surely thou art before Our eyes. And proclaim the praise of thy Lord when thou arisest,
Maududi Be patient, then, (O Prophet), until the judgement of your Lord comes. For surely you are before Our eyes. And celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise,
Pickthall So wait patiently (O Muhammad) for thy Lord's decree, for surely thou art in Our sight; and hymn the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest,
Sahih And be patient, [O Muhammad], for the decision of your Lord, for indeed, you are in Our eyes. And exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord when you arise.
Yusuf Ali Now await in patience the command of thy Lord: for verily thou art in Our eyes: and celebrate the praises of thy Lord the while thou standest forth,

52.49

surah 52 - verse 49

Arberry and proclaim the praise of thy Lord in the night, and at the declining of the stars.
Maududi and also celebrate His praise at night, and at the retreat of the stars.
Pickthall And in the night-time also hymn His praise, and at the setting of the stars.
Sahih And in a part of the night exalt Him and after [the setting of] the stars.
Yusuf Ali And for part of the night also praise thou Him,- and at the retreat of the stars!
