Surah Al-Masadd (The Flame)
111.1
surah 111 - verse 1

| Arberry | Perish the hands of Abu Lahab, and perish he! |
| Maududi | Destroyed were the hands of Abu Lahab, and he lay utterly doomed. |
| Pickthall | The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish. |
| Sahih | May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he. |
| Yusuf Ali | Perish the hands of the Father of Flame! Perish he! |

| Sahih | And his wife [as well] - the carrier of firewood. |
| Yusuf Ali | His wife shall carry the (crackling) wood - As fuel!- |

| Arberry | upon her neck a rope of palm-fibre. |
| Maududi | upon her neck shall be a rope of palm-fibre. |
| Pickthall | Will have upon her neck a halter of palm-fibre. |
| Sahih | Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber. |
| Yusuf Ali | A twisted rope of palm-leaf fibre round her (own) neck! |
