Surah Al Fil (The Elephant)

105.1

surah 105 - verse 1

Arberry Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with the Men of the Elephant?
Maududi Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the people of the elephants?
Pickthall Hast thou not seen how thy Lord dealt with the owners of the Elephant?
Sahih Have you not considered, [O Muhammad], how your Lord dealt with the companions of the elephant?
Yusuf Ali Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the Companions of the Elephant?

105.2

Arberry Did He not make their guile to go astray?
Maududi Did He not bring their plan to naught?
Pickthall Did He not bring their stratagem to naught,
Sahih Did He not make their plan into misguidance?
Yusuf Ali Did He not make their treacherous plan go astray?

Arberry And He loosed upon them birds in flights,
Maududi And He sent against them swarms of birds
Pickthall And send against them swarms of flying creatures,
Sahih And He sent against them birds in flocks,
Yusuf Ali And He sent against them Flights of Birds,

105.4

surah 105 - verse 4

Arberry hurling against them stones of baked clay
Maududi which smote them with stones of baked clay,
Pickthall Which pelted them with stones of baked clay,
Sahih Striking them with stones of hard clay,
Yusuf Ali Striking them with stones of baked clay.

105.5

surah 105 - verse 5

Arberry and He made them like green blades devoured.
Maududi and made them like straw eaten up (by cattle).
Pickthall And made them like green crops devoured (by cattle)?
Sahih And He made them like eaten straw.
Yusuf Ali Then did He make them like an empty field of stalks and straw, (of which the corn) has been eaten up.
