55.41

surah 55 - verse 41

Arberry The sinners shall be known by their mark, and they shall be seized by their forelocks and their feet.
Maududi The culprits shall be known by their marks, and shall be seized by their forelocks and their feet.
Pickthall The guilty will be known by their marks, and will be taken by the forelocks and the feet.
Sahih The criminals will be known by their marks, and they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet.
Yusuf Ali (For) the sinners will be known by their marks: and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet.

55.42

surah 55 - verse 42

Arberry O which of your Lord's bounties will you and you deny?
Maududi Which of the powers of your Lord, will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny?
Pickthall Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Sahih So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
Yusuf Ali Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

55.43

surah 55 - verse 43

Arberry This is Gehenna, that sinners cried lies to;
Maududi (It will be said): “This is the Hell that the culprits had cried lies to.
Pickthall This is hell which the guilty deny.
Sahih This is Hell, which the criminals deny.
Yusuf Ali This is the Hell which the Sinners deny:

Arberry they shall go round between it and between hot, boiling water.
Maududi They will keep circling around between Hell and boiling water.
Pickthall They go circling round between it and fierce, boiling water.
Sahih They will go around between it and scalding water, heated [to the utmost degree].
Yusuf Ali In its midst and in the midst of boiling hot water will they wander round!

55.45

55.46

surah 55 - verse 46

Arberry But such as fears the Station of his Lord, for them shall be two gardens --
Maududi For any who fears to stand before his Lord are two Gardens.
Pickthall But for him who feareth the standing before his Lord there are two gardens.
Sahih But for he who has feared the position of his Lord are two gardens -
Yusuf Ali But for such as fear the time when they will stand before (the Judgment Seat of) their Lord, there will be two Gardens-

Maududi These Gardens will abound in green, blooming branches.

Arberry therein two fountains of running water --
Maududi In each of the two Gardens are two flowing springs.
Pickthall Wherein are two fountains flowing.
Sahih In both of them are two springs, flowing.
Yusuf Ali In them (each) will be two Springs flowing (free);

Arberry therein of every fruit two kinds --
Maududi In both these is a pair of every fruit.
Pickthall Wherein is every kind of fruit in pairs.
Sahih In both of them are of every fruit, two kinds.
Yusuf Ali In them will be Fruits of every kind, two and two.

55.54

surah 55 - verse 54

Arberry reclining upon couches lined with brocade, the fruits of the gardens nigh to gather --
Maududi They shall recline on couches lined with brocade, and within reach shall hang the fruits of the two Gardens.
Pickthall Reclining upon couches lined with silk brocade, the fruit of both the gardens near to hand.
Sahih [They are] reclining on beds whose linings are of silk brocade, and the fruit of the two gardens is hanging low.
Yusuf Ali They will recline on Carpets, whose inner linings will be of rich brocade: the Fruit of the Gardens will be near (and easy of reach).

55.55

Arberry therein maidens restraining their glances, untouched before them by any man or jinn --
Maududi In the midst of these shall be maidens with modest, restrained glances; maidens whom no man or jinn has ever touched before.
Pickthall Therein are those of modest gaze, whom neither man nor jinni will have touched before them.
Sahih In them are women limiting [their] glances, untouched before them by man or jinni -
Yusuf Ali In them will be (Maidens), chaste, restraining their glances, whom no man or Jinn before them has touched;-

55.57

Arberry lovely as rubies, beautiful as coral --
Maududi Lovely as rubies and pearls.
Pickthall (In beauty) like the jacynth and the coral-stone.
Sahih As if they were rubies and coral.
Yusuf Ali Like unto Rubies and coral.

55.59
