Surah At Tur (The Mount)
52.21
surah 52 - verse 21

Arberry | And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. |
Maududi | We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. |
Pickthall | And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. |
Sahih | And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. |
Yusuf Ali | And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. |
52.22
surah 52 - verse 22

Arberry | And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire |
Maududi | We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. |
Pickthall | And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. |
Sahih | And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. |
Yusuf Ali | And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. |
52.23
surah 52 - verse 23

Arberry | while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, |
Maududi | They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. |
Pickthall | There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. |
Sahih | They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. |
Yusuf Ali | They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. |
52.24
surah 52 - verse 24

Arberry | and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. |
Maududi | Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. |
Pickthall | And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. |
Sahih | There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. |
Yusuf Ali | Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. |
52.25
surah 52 - verse 25

Arberry | They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. |
Maududi | They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). |
Pickthall | And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, |
Sahih | And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. |
Yusuf Ali | They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. |

Arberry | They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, |
Maududi | They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). |
Pickthall | Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; |
Sahih | They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. |
Yusuf Ali | They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. |
52.27
surah 52 - verse 27

Arberry | and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; |
Maududi | Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. |
Pickthall | But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. |
Sahih | So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. |
Yusuf Ali | "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. |
52.28
surah 52 - verse 28

Arberry | we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' |
Maududi | Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” |
Pickthall | Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. |
Sahih | Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." |
Yusuf Ali | "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" |
52.29
surah 52 - verse 29

Arberry | Therefore remind! by thy Lord's blessing thou art not a soothsayer neither possessed. |
Maududi | So exhort (them, O Prophet), for by your Lord's Grace, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman. |
Pickthall | Therefor warn (men, O Muhammad). By the grace of Allah thou art neither soothsayer nor madman. |
Sahih | So remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman. |
Yusuf Ali | Therefore proclaim thou the praises (of thy Lord): for by the Grace of thy Lord, thou art no (vulgar) soothsayer, nor art thou one possessed. |
52.30

Arberry | Or do they say, 'He is a poet for whom we await Fate's uncertainty'? |
Maududi | Or do they say: “He is a poet for whom we await an adverse turn of fortune.” |
Pickthall | Or say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time? |
Sahih | Or do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time?" |
Yusuf Ali | Or do they say:- "A Poet! we await for him some calamity (hatched) by Time!" |
52.31
surah 52 - verse 31

Arberry | Say: 'Await! I shall be awaiting with you.' |
Maududi | Tell them: “Wait; I too am waiting with you.” |
Pickthall | Say (unto them): Except (your fill)! Lo! I am with you among the expectant. |
Sahih | Say, "Wait, for indeed I am, with you, among the waiters." |
Yusuf Ali | Say thou: "Await ye!- I too will wait along with you!" |

Arberry | Or do their intellects bid them do this? Or are they an insolent people? |
Maududi | Do their minds prompt them to say such things, or are they a people immersed in transgression?” |
Pickthall | Do their minds command them to do this, or are they an outrageous folk? |
Sahih | Or do their minds command them to [say] this, or are they a transgressing people? |
Yusuf Ali | Is it that their faculties of understanding urge them to this, or are they but a people transgressing beyond bounds? |

Arberry | Or do they say, 'He has invented it?' Nay, but they do not believe. |
Maududi | Do they say: “He has himself fabricated the Qur'an?” No; the truth is that they are altogether averse to believing. |
Pickthall | Or say they: He hath invented it? Nay, but they will not believe! |
Sahih | Or do they say, "He has made it up"? Rather, they do not believe. |
Yusuf Ali | Or do they say, "He fabricated the (Message)"? Nay, they have no faith! |
52.34
surah 52 - verse 34

Arberry | Then let them bring a discourse like it, if they speak truly. |
Maududi | (If they are truthful in this), then let them produce a discourse of similar splendour. |
Pickthall | Then let them produce speech the like thereof, if they are truthful. |
Sahih | Then let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful. |
Yusuf Ali | Let them then produce a recital like unto it,- If (it be) they speak the truth! |

Maududi | Or do they have your Lord's treasures in their keeping? Or have absolute authority over them? |
Pickthall | Or do they own the treasures of thy Lord? Or have they been given charge (thereof)? |
Sahih | Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]? |
Yusuf Ali | Or are the Treasures of thy Lord with them, or are they the managers (of affairs)? |
52.38
surah 52 - verse 38

Arberry | Or have they a ladder whereon they listen? Then let any of them that has listened bring a clear authority. |
Maududi | Or do they have a ladder whereon they can climb and attempt to listen (to what is transpiring in the Higher Realm)? Then, let any of them who has listened to it produce a clear proof of it. |
Pickthall | Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest! |
Sahih | Or have they a stairway [into the heaven] upon which they listen? Then let their listener produce a clear authority. |
Yusuf Ali | Or have they a ladder, by which they can (climb up to heaven and) listen (to its secrets)? Then let (such a) listener of theirs produce a manifest proof. |

Arberry | Or askest thou them for a wage, and so they are weighed down with debt? |
Maududi | Or is it that you ask of them any recompense so that they should fear to be weighed down under the burden of debt? |
Pickthall | Or askest thou (Muhammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt? |
Sahih | Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down? |
Yusuf Ali | Or is it that thou dost ask for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load of debt?- |
