Surah Adh Dhariyat (The Winds)
51.41
surah 51 - verse 41

Arberry | And also in Ad, when We loosed against them the withering wind |
Maududi | There is also a Sign for you in (the story of) Ad, when We let loose upon them an ominous wind |
Pickthall | And in (the tribe of) A'ad (there is a portent) when we sent the fatal wind against them. |
Sahih | And in 'Aad [was a sign], when We sent against them the barren wind. |
Yusuf Ali | And in the 'Ad (people) (was another Sign): Behold, We sent against them the devastating Wind: |
51.42
surah 51 - verse 42

Arberry | that left nothing it came upon, but made it as stuff decayed. |
Maududi | that left nothing that it came upon without reducing it to rubble. |
Pickthall | It spared naught that it reached, but made it (all) as dust. |
Sahih | It left nothing of what it came upon but that it made it like disintegrated ruins. |
Yusuf Ali | It left nothing whatever that it came up against, but reduced it to ruin and rottenness. |
51.43
surah 51 - verse 43

Arberry | And also in Thamood, when it was said to them, 'Take your enjoyment for a while!' |
Maududi | There is also a Sign for you in (the story of) Thamud. They were told: “Enjoy yourselves for a while.” |
Pickthall | And in (the tribe of) Thamud (there is a portent) when it was told them: Take your ease awhile. |
Sahih | And in Thamud, when it was said to them, "Enjoy yourselves for a time." |
Yusuf Ali | And in the Thamud (was another Sign): Behold, they were told, "Enjoy (your brief day) for a little while!" |
51.44
surah 51 - verse 44

Arberry | Then they turned in disdain from the commandment of their Lord, and the thunderbolt took them and they themselves beholding |
Maududi | But they brazenly disobeyed their Lord's command, and then a sudden chastisement overtook them while they looked on. |
Pickthall | But they rebelled against their Lord's decree, and so the thunderbolt overtook them even while they gazed; |
Sahih | But they were insolent toward the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on. |
Yusuf Ali | But they insolently defied the Command of their Lord: So the stunning noise (of an earthquake) seized them, even while they were looking on. |

surah 51 - verse 45

Arberry | and they were not able to stand upright, and were not helped. |
Maududi | They were unable even to stand up or protect themselves. |
Pickthall | And they were unable to rise up, nor could they help themselves. |
Sahih | And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves. |
Yusuf Ali | Then they could not even stand (on their feet), nor could they help themselves. |
51.46
surah 51 - verse 46

Arberry | And the people of Noah before; surely they were an ungodly people. |
Maududi | Before all these We destroyed the people of Noah: they were a wicked people. |
Pickthall | And the folk of Noah aforetime. Lo! they were licentious folk. |
Sahih | And [We destroyed] the people of Noah before; indeed, they were a people defiantly disobedient. |
Yusuf Ali | So were the People of Noah before them for they wickedly transgressed. |
51.47
surah 51 - verse 47

Arberry | And heaven -- We built it with might, and We extend it wide. |
Maududi | And heaven – We made it with Our Own Power and We have the Power to do so. |
Pickthall | We have built the heaven with might, and We it is Who make the vast extent (thereof). |
Sahih | And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander. |
Yusuf Ali | With power and skill did We construct the Firmament: for it is We Who create the vastness of pace. |
51.48
surah 51 - verse 48

Arberry | And the earth -- We spread it forth; O excellent Smoothers! |
Maududi | And the earth – We spread it out, and how well have We smoothed it! |
Pickthall | And the earth have We laid out, how gracious is the Spreader (thereof)! |
Sahih | And the earth We have spread out, and excellent is the preparer. |
Yusuf Ali | And We have spread out the (spacious) earth: How excellently We do spread out! |
51.49
surah 51 - verse 49

Arberry | And of everything created We two kinds; haply you will remember. |
Maududi | And of everything We have created pairs; perhaps you will take heed. |
Pickthall | And all things We have created by pairs, that haply ye may reflect. |
Sahih | And of all things We created two mates; perhaps you will remember. |
Yusuf Ali | And of every thing We have created pairs: That ye may receive instruction. |

surah 51 - verse 50

Arberry | Therefore flee unto God! I am a clear warner from Him to you. |
Maududi | Flee, therefore, to Allah. Surely I am a clear warner to you from Him; |
Pickthall | Therefor flee unto Allah; lo! I am a plain warner unto you from him. |
Sahih | So flee to Allah. Indeed, I am to you from Him a clear warner. |
Yusuf Ali | Hasten ye then (at once) to Allah: I am from Him a Warner to you, clear and open! |
51.51
surah 51 - verse 51

Arberry | And set not up with God another god; I am a clear warner from Him to you. |
Maududi | and do not set up any deity with Allah. Surely I am a clear warner to you from Him. |
Pickthall | And set not any other god along with Allah; lo! I am a plain warner unto you from Him. |
Sahih | And do not make [as equal] with Allah another deity. Indeed, I am to you from Him a clear warner. |
Yusuf Ali | And make not another an object of worship with Allah: I am from Him a Warner to you, clear and open! |
51.52
surah 51 - verse 52

Arberry | Even so not a Messenger came to those before them but they said, 'A sorcerer, or a man possessed!' |
Maududi | Thus has it been (in the past): never did a Messenger come to the nations that preceded them but they said: “(He is) a sorcerer, or a mad-man.” |
Pickthall | Even so there came no messenger unto those before them but they said: A wizard or a madman! |
Sahih | Similarly, there came not to those before them any messenger except that they said, "A magician or a madman." |
Yusuf Ali | Similarly, no messenger came to the Peoples before them, but they said (of him) in like manner, "A sorcerer, or one possessed"! |
51.53
surah 51 - verse 53

Arberry | What, have they bequeathed it one to another? Nay, but they are an insolent people. |
Maududi | Have they arrived at a common understanding concerning this? No; but they are a people given to transgression. |
Pickthall | Have they handed down (the saying) as an heirloom one unto another? Nay, but they are froward folk. |
Sahih | Did they suggest it to them? Rather, they [themselves] are a transgressing people. |
Yusuf Ali | Is this the legacy they have transmitted, one to another? Nay, they are themselves a people transgressing beyond bounds! |
51.54
surah 51 - verse 54

Arberry | So turn thou from them; thou wilt not be reproached. |
Maududi | So turn your attention away from them; you shall incur no blame. |
Pickthall | So withdraw from them (O Muhammad), for thou art in no wise blameworthy, |
Sahih | So leave them, [O Muhammad], for you are not to be blamed. |
Yusuf Ali | So turn away from them: not thine is the blame. |
51.55
surah 51 - verse 55

Arberry | And remind; the Reminder profits the believers. |
Maududi | Do, however, keep exhorting them; for exhortation benefits those endowed with faith. |
Pickthall | And warn, for warning profiteth believers. |
Sahih | And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers. |
Yusuf Ali | But teach (thy Message) for teaching benefits the Believers. |
51.56
surah 51 - verse 56

Arberry | I have not created jinn and mankind except to serve Me. |
Maududi | I created the jinn and humans for nothing else but that they may serve Me; |
Pickthall | I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship Me. |
Sahih | And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. |
Yusuf Ali | I have only created Jinns and men, that they may serve Me. |
51.57
surah 51 - verse 57

Arberry | I desire of them no provision, neither do I desire that they should feed Me. |
Maududi | I desire from them no provision, nor do I want them to feed Me. |
Pickthall | I seek no livelihood from them, nor do I ask that they should feed Me. |
Sahih | I do not want from them any provision, nor do I want them to feed Me. |
Yusuf Ali | No Sustenance do I require of them, nor do I require that they should feed Me. |
51.58
surah 51 - verse 58

Arberry | Surely God is the All-provider, the Possessor of Strength, the Ever-Sure. |
Maududi | Surely Allah is the Bestower of all provision, the Lord of all power, the Strong. |
Pickthall | Lo! Allah! He it is that giveth livelihood, the Lord of unbreakable might. |
Sahih | Indeed, it is Allah who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength. |
Yusuf Ali | For Allah is He Who gives (all) Sustenance,- Lord of Power,- Steadfast (for ever). |
51.59
surah 51 - verse 59

Arberry | The evildoers shall have their portion, like the portion of their fellows; so let them not hasten Me! |
Maududi | The wrong-doers shall receive a portion of the chastisements as their fellows (of yore). So let them not rush Me. |
Pickthall | And lo! for those who (now) do wrong there is an evil day like unto the evil day (which came for) their likes (of old); so let them not ask Me to hasten on (that day). |
Sahih | And indeed, for those who have wronged is a portion [of punishment] like the portion of their predecessors, so let them not impatiently urge Me. |
Yusuf Ali | For the Wrong-doers, their portion is like unto the portion of their fellows (of earlier generations): then let them not ask Me to hasten (that portion)! |
51.60
surah 51 - verse 60

Arberry | So woe to the unbelievers, for that day of theirs that they are promised. |
Maududi | Woe, then, betide those who disbelieved in that Day of theirs which they are being asked to hold in dread. |
Pickthall | And woe unto those who disbelieve, from (that) their day which they are promised. |
Sahih | And woe to those who have disbelieved from their Day which they are promised. |
Yusuf Ali | Woe, then, to the Unbelievers, on account of that Day of theirs which they have been promised! |
