51.21
surah 51 - verse 21

Arberry | So by the Lord of heaven and earth, it is as surely true as that you have speech. |
Maududi | So, by the Lord of the heaven and the earth, this is certainly true, as true as the fact of your speaking. |
Pickthall | And by the Lord of the heavens and the earth, it is the truth, even as (it is true) that ye speak. |
Sahih | Then by the Lord of the heaven and earth, indeed, it is truth - just as [sure as] it is that you are speaking. |
Yusuf Ali | Then, by the Lord of heaven and earth, this is the very Truth, as much as the fact that ye can speak intelligently to each other. |

Maududi | When they came to him, they said: “Peace”; he said: “Peace also be to you; (you seem to be) a group of strangers.” |
Pickthall | When they came in unto him and said: Peace! he answered, Peace! (and thought): Folk unknown (to me). |
Sahih | When they entered upon him and said, "[We greet you with] peace." He answered, "[And upon you] peace, [you are] a people unknown. |
Yusuf Ali | Behold, they entered his presence, and said: "Peace!" He said, "Peace!" (and thought, "These seem) unusual people." |

Arberry | Then he conceived a fear of them. They said, 'Be not afraid!' And they gave him good tidings of a cunning boy. |
Maududi | Then he became afraid of them. They said: “Fear not,” and announced to him the good news of (the birth of) a boy endowed with knowledge. |
Pickthall | Then he conceived a fear of them. They said: Fear not! and gave him tidings of (the birth of) a wise son. |
Sahih | And he felt from them apprehension. They said, "Fear not," and gave him good tidings of a learned boy. |
Yusuf Ali | (When they did not eat), He conceived a fear of them. They said, "Fear not," and they gave him glad tidings of a son endowed with knowledge. |

Arberry | Then came forward his wife, clamouring, and she smote her face, and said, 'An old woman, barren!' |
Maududi | So hearing his wife went forth shouting. She struck her face and exclaimed: “A barren old woman am I.” |
Pickthall | Then his wife came forward, making moan, and smote her face, and cried: A barren old woman! |
Sahih | And his wife approached with a cry [of alarm] and struck her face and said, "[I am] a barren old woman!" |
Yusuf Ali | But his wife came forward (laughing) aloud: she smote her forehead and said: "A barren old woman!" |

Arberry | They said, 'So says thy Lord; He is the All-wise, the All-knowing.' |
Maududi | They said: “So has your Lord said (that you shall have a boy). Surely He is Most Wise, All-Knowing.” |
Pickthall | They said: Even so saith thy Lord. Lo! He is the Wise, the Knower. |
Sahih | They said, "Thus has said your Lord; indeed, He is the Wise, the Knowing." |
Yusuf Ali | They said, "Even so has thy Lord spoken: and He is full of Wisdom and Knowledge." |

Maududi | Abraham said: “Envoys (of Allah), what is your errand?” |

Sahih | [Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?" |
Yusuf Ali | (Abraham) said: "And what, O ye Messengers, is your errand (now)?" |

Yusuf Ali | And We left there a Sign for such as fear the Grievous Penalty. |

Maududi | There is also a Sign for you in the story of Moses when We sent him with a clear authority to Pharaoh. |

Sahih | And in Moses [was a sign], when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority. |
Yusuf Ali | And in Moses (was another Sign): Behold, We sent him to Pharaoh, with authority manifest. |

Arberry | but he turned his back, with his court, saying, 'A sorcerer, or a man possessed!' |
Maududi | But Pharaoh turned away, showing arrogance on account of his power, and said (about Moses): “He is either a sorcerer or a madman.” |
Pickthall | But he withdrew (confiding) in his might, and said: A wizard or a madman. |
Sahih | But he turned away with his supporters and said," A magician or a madman." |
Yusuf Ali | But (Pharaoh) turned back with his Chiefs, and said, "A sorcerer, or one possessed!" |

Arberry | So We seized him and his hosts, and We cast them into the sea, and he blameworthy. |
Maududi | So We seized him and his hosts, and cast them into the sea. He became an object of much blame. |
Pickthall | So We seized him and his hosts and flung them in the sea, for he was reprobate. |
Sahih | So We took him and his soldiers and cast them into the sea, and he was blameworthy. |
Yusuf Ali | So We took him and his forces, and threw them into the sea; and his was the blame. |
