| Yusuf Ali | "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? |

| Maududi | After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' |
| Pickthall | Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? |
| Sahih | That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" |
| Yusuf Ali | "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" |

| Yusuf Ali | He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. |

| Arberry | He says, 'By God, wellnigh thou didst destroy me; |
| Maududi | He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. |
| Pickthall | He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, |
| Sahih | He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me. |
| Yusuf Ali | He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! |

| Sahih | If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]. |
| Yusuf Ali | "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! |
