37.21
surah 37 - verse 21

Arberry | 'This is the Day of Decision, even that you cried lies to. |
Maududi | “Yes, this is the Day of Final Decision that you used to deny as a lie.” |
Pickthall | This is the Day of Separation, which ye used to deny. |
Sahih | [They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny." |
Yusuf Ali | (A voice will say,) "This is the Day of Sorting Out, whose truth ye (once) denied!" |
37.22
surah 37 - verse 22

Arberry | Muster those who did evil, their wives, and that they were serving, |
Maududi | (Then will the command be given): “Muster all the wrong-doers and their spouses and the deities whom they used to serve |

Sahih | [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship |
Yusuf Ali | "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- |
37.23

Sahih | They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." |
Yusuf Ali | They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" |

Maududi | They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. |
Pickthall | They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. |
Sahih | The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, |
Yusuf Ali | They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! |
37.30
surah 37 - verse 30

Arberry | we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. |
Maududi | We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, |
Pickthall | We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. |
Sahih | And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. |
Yusuf Ali | "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! |
37.31
surah 37 - verse 31

Arberry | So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. |
Maududi | and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. |
Pickthall | Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). |
Sahih | So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. |
Yusuf Ali | "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). |
37.32
surah 37 - verse 32

Arberry | Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' |
Maududi | So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” |
Pickthall | Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. |
Sahih | And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." |
Yusuf Ali | "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." |
37.33
surah 37 - verse 33

Arberry | So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. |
Maududi | On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. |
Pickthall | Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. |
Sahih | So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. |
Yusuf Ali | Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. |
37.34

Sahih | Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant |
Yusuf Ali | For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, |

Arberry | saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' |
Maududi | and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” |
Pickthall | And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? |
Sahih | And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" |
Yusuf Ali | And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" |
37.37
surah 37 - verse 37

Arberry | 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. |
Maududi | (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. |
Pickthall | Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him). |
Sahih | Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. |
Yusuf Ali | Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). |
37.38
surah 37 - verse 38

Arberry | Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, |
Maududi | (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. |
Pickthall | Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - |
Sahih | Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment, |
Yusuf Ali | Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- |
37.39
surah 37 - verse 39

37.40
surah 37 - verse 40
