37.1

Sahih | Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises. |
Yusuf Ali | Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all between them, and Lord of every point at the rising of the sun! |
37.6

Yusuf Ali | We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars,- |
37.7
surah 37 - verse 7

Sahih | [So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side, |
Yusuf Ali | (So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly but be cast away from every side, |
37.9
surah 37 - verse 9

Arberry | rejected, and theirs is an everlasting chastisement, |
Maududi | and are repelled. Theirs is an unceasing chastisement. |
Pickthall | Outcast, and theirs is a perpetual torment; |
Sahih | Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment, |
Yusuf Ali | Repulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty, |
37.10
surah 37 - verse 10

Arberry | except such as snatches a fragment, and he is pursued by a piercing flame. |
Maududi | And if any is able to snatch a fragment, he is pursued by a piercing flame. |
Pickthall | Save him who snatcheth a fragment, and there pursueth him a piercing flame. |
Sahih | Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness]. |
Yusuf Ali | Except such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire, of piercing brightness. |
37.11
surah 37 - verse 11

Arberry | So ask them for a pronouncement -- Are they stronger in constitution, or those We created? We created them of clinging clay. |
Maududi | So ask them (that is, human beings): “Were they harder to create than the objects We created?” We created them from sticky clay. |
Pickthall | Then ask them (O Muhammad): Are they stronger as a creation, or those (others) whom we have created? Lo! We created them of plastic clay. |
Sahih | Then inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created men from sticky clay. |
Yusuf Ali | Just ask their opinion: are they the more difficult to create, or the (other) beings We have created? Them have We created out of a sticky clay! |
37.12
surah 37 - verse 12

Arberry | Nay, thou marvellest; and they scoff |
Maududi | You marvel (at the wondrous creations of Allah) and they scoff at it, |
Pickthall | Nay, but thou dost marvel when they mock |
Sahih | But you wonder, while they mock, |
Yusuf Ali | Truly dost thou marvel, while they ridicule, |

Maududi | and say: “This is nothing but plain sorcery. |

Sahih | And say, "This is not but obvious magic. |
Yusuf Ali | And say, "This is nothing but evident sorcery! |
37.16
surah 37 - verse 16

Arberry | What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? |
Maududi | Is it ever possible that after we die and are reduced to dust and (a skeleton of) bones, we will be raised to life? |
Pickthall | When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised (again)? |
Sahih | When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? |
Yusuf Ali | "What! when we die, and become dust and bones, shall we (then) be raised up (again) |
37.17
surah 37 - verse 17

Maududi | And so also shall our forefathers of yore be raised to life?” |

surah 37 - verse 18

Arberry | Say: 'Yes, and in all lowliness.' |
Maududi | Tell them: “Yes; and you are utterly helpless (against Allah).” |
Pickthall | Say (O Muhammad): Ye, in truth; and ye will be brought low. |
Sahih | Say, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible." |
Yusuf Ali | Say thou: "Yea, and ye shall then be humiliated (on account of your evil)." |
37.19
surah 37 - verse 19

Arberry | For it is only a single scaring, then behold, they are watching |
Maududi | There will be a single stern rebuff and lo, they will be observing with their own eyes (all that they had been warned against). |
Pickthall | There is but one Shout, and lo! they behold, |
Sahih | It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing. |
Yusuf Ali | Then it will be a single (compelling) cry; and behold, they will begin to see! |
37.20
surah 37 - verse 20

Arberry | and they say, 'Woe, alas for us! This is the Day of Doom.' |
Maududi | They will then say: “Woe for us. This is the Day of Judgement.” |
Pickthall | And say: Ah, woe for us! This is the Day of Judgment. |
Sahih | They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense." |
Yusuf Ali | They will say, "Ah! Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!" |
