Surah Maryam (Mary)
19.81
surah 19 - verse 81

Arberry | And they have taken to them other gods apart from God, that they might be for them a might. |
Maududi | They have taken other gods instead of Allah that they may be a source of strength for them. |
Pickthall | And they have chosen (other) gods beside Allah that they may be a power for them. |
Sahih | And they have taken besides Allah [false] deities that they would be for them [a source of] honor. |
Yusuf Ali | And they have taken (for worship) gods other than Allah, to give them power and glory! |
19.82
surah 19 - verse 82

Arberry | No, indeed! They shall deny their service, and they shall be against them pitted. |
Maududi | By no means! They shall soon deny their worship and shall become their adversaries instead. |
Pickthall | Nay, but they will deny their worship of them, and become opponents unto them. |
Sahih | No! Those "gods" will deny their worship of them and will be against them opponents [on the Day of Judgement]. |
Yusuf Ali | Instead, they shall reject their worship, and become adversaries against them. |
19.83
surah 19 - verse 83

Arberry | Hast thou not seen how We sent the Satans against the unbelievers, to prick them? |
Maududi | Do you not see that We have sent devils upon the unbelievers who greatly incite them (to oppose the Truth)? |
Pickthall | Seest thou not that We have set the devils on the disbelievers to confound them with confusion? |
Sahih | Do you not see that We have sent the devils upon the disbelievers, inciting them to [evil] with [constant] incitement? |
Yusuf Ali | Seest thou not that We have set the Evil Ones on against the unbelievers, to incite them with fury? |
19.84
surah 19 - verse 84

Arberry | So hasten thou not against them; We are only numbering for them a number. |
Maududi | Therefore, do not hasten (in seeking a scourge against them). We are counting their days. |
Pickthall | So make no haste against them (O Muhammad). We do but number unto them a sum (of days). |
Sahih | So be not impatient over them. We only count out to them a [limited] number. |
Yusuf Ali | So make no haste against them, for We but count out to them a (limited) number (of days). |
19.85
surah 19 - verse 85

Sahih | On the Day We will gather the righteous to the Most Merciful as a delegation |
Yusuf Ali | The day We shall gather the righteous to (Allah) Most Gracious, like a band presented before a king for honours, |

surah 19 - verse 86

Maududi | On that Day none will have the power to intercede for them except those who received a sanction from the Most Compassionate Lord. |

Sahih | None will have [power of] intercession except he who had taken from the Most Merciful a covenant. |
Yusuf Ali | None shall have the power of intercession, but such a one as has received permission (or promise) from (Allah) Most Gracious. |

Maududi | They claim: "The Most Compassionate Lord has taken a son to Himself." |

Sahih | And they say, "The Most Merciful has taken [for Himself] a son." |
Yusuf Ali | They say: "(Allah) Most Gracious has begotten a son!" |

Pickthall | Whereby almost the heavens are torn, and the earth is split asunder and the mountains fall in ruins, |
Sahih | The heavens almost rupture therefrom and the earth splits open and the mountains collapse in devastation |
Yusuf Ali | At it the skies are ready to burst, the earth to split asunder, and the mountains to fall down in utter ruin, |

Sahih | There is no one in the heavens and earth but that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant. |
Yusuf Ali | Not one of the beings in the heavens and the earth but must come to (Allah) Most Gracious as a servant. |

surah 19 - verse 95

Arberry | Every one of them shall come to Him upon the Day of Resurrection, all alone. |

Yusuf Ali | And everyone of them will come to Him singly on the Day of Judgment. |

Arberry | Surely those who believe and do deeds of righteousness -- unto them the All-merciful shall assign love. |
Maududi | Indeed, the Most Compassionate Lord will soon create enduring love for those who believe and do righteous works. |
Pickthall | Lo! those who believe and do good works, the Beneficent will appoint for them love. |
Sahih | Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - the Most Merciful will appoint for them affection. |
Yusuf Ali | On those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, will (Allah) Most Gracious bestow love. |
19.97
surah 19 - verse 97

Arberry | Now We have made it easy by thy tongue that thou mayest bear good tidings thereby to the godfearing, and warn a people stubborn. |
Maududi | Therefore, We have revealed the Qur'an in your tongue and made it easy to understand that you may give glad tidings to the God-fearing and warn a contentious people. |
Pickthall | And We make (this Scripture) easy in thy tongue, (O Muhammad) only that thou mayst bear good tidings therewith unto those who ward off (evil), and warn therewith the froward folk. |
Sahih | So, [O Muhammad], We have only made Qur'an easy in the Arabic language that you may give good tidings thereby to the righteous and warn thereby a hostile people. |
Yusuf Ali | So have We made the (Qur'an) easy in thine own tongue, that with it thou mayest give Glad Tidings to the righteous, and warnings to people given to contention. |
19.98
surah 19 - verse 98

Arberry | And how many a generation We destroyed before them! Dost thou perceive so much as one of them, or hear of them a whisper? |
Maududi | How numerous are the peoples that We destroyed before them! Do you now perceive any one of them, or hear even their whisper? |
Pickthall | And how many a generation before them have We destroyed! Canst thou (Muhammad) see a single man of them, or hear from them the slightest sound? |
Sahih | And how many have We destroyed before them of generations? Do you perceive of them anyone or hear from them a sound? |
Yusuf Ali | But how many (countless) generations before them have We destroyed? Canst thou find a single one of them (now) or hear (so much as) a whisper of them? |
