19.61
surah 19 - verse 61

Arberry | Gardens of Eden that the All-merciful promised His servants in the Unseen; His promise is ever performed. |
Maududi | Theirs shall be everlasting Gardens which the Most Compassionate Lord has promised His servants in a realm which is beyond the ken of perception. Surely His promise shall he fulfilled. |
Pickthall | Gardens of Eden, which the Beneficent hath promised to His slaves in the unseen. Lo! His promise is ever sure of fulfilment - |
Sahih | [Therein are] gardens of perpetual residence which the Most Merciful has promised His servants in the unseen. Indeed, His promise has ever been coming. |
Yusuf Ali | Gardens of Eternity, those which (Allah) Most Gracious has promised to His servants in the Unseen: for His promise must (necessarily) come to pass. |
19.62
surah 19 - verse 62

Arberry | There they shall hear no idle talk, but only 'Peace.' There they shall have their provision at dawn and evening. |
Maududi | They shall not hear in it anything vain; they shall hear only what is good; and they shall have their provision in it, morning and evening. |
Pickthall | They hear therein no idle talk, but only Peace; and therein they have food for morn and evening. |
Sahih | They will not hear therein any ill speech - only [greetings of] peace - and they will have their provision therein, morning and afternoon. |
Yusuf Ali | They will not there hear any vain discourse, but only salutations of Peace: And they will have therein their sustenance, morning and evening. |
19.63

Arberry | That is Paradise which We shall give as an inheritance to those of Our servants who are godfearing. |
Maududi | Such is the Paradise which We shall cause those of Our servants who have been God-fearing to inherit. |
Pickthall | Such is the Garden which We cause the devout among Our bondmen to inherit. |
Sahih | That is Paradise, which We give as inheritance to those of Our servants who were fearing of Allah. |
Yusuf Ali | Such is the Garden which We give as an inheritance to those of Our servants who guard against Evil. |
19.64
surah 19 - verse 64

Arberry | We come not down, save at the commandment of thy Lord. To Him belongs all that is before us, and all that is behind us, and all between that. |
Maududi | (The angels will say): "(O Muhammad!) We descend not except by the command of your Lord. To Him belongs all that is before us and all that is behind us, and all that is in between. Your Lord is not forgetful in the least. |
Pickthall | We (angels) come not down save by commandment of thy Lord. Unto Him belongeth all that is before us and all that is behind us and all that is between those two, and thy Lord was never forgetful - |
Sahih | [Gabriel said], "And we [angels] descend not except by the order of your Lord. To Him belongs that before us and that behind us and what is in between. And never is your Lord forgetful - |
Yusuf Ali | (The angels say:) "We descend not but by command of thy Lord: to Him belongeth what is before us and what is behind us, and what is between: and thy Lord never doth forget,- |
19.65
surah 19 - verse 65

Arberry | And thy Lord is never forgetful, Lord He of the heavens and earth and all that is between them. So serve Him, and be thou patient in His service; knowest thou any that can be named with His Name? |
Maududi | He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is in between. Serve Him, then, and be constant in serving Him. Do you know anyone that might be His compeer?" |
Pickthall | Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them! Therefor, worship thou Him and be thou steadfast in His service. Knowest thou one that can be named along with Him? |
Sahih | Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them - so worship Him and have patience for His worship. Do you know of any similarity to Him?" |
Yusuf Ali | "Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and of all that is between them; so worship Him, and be constant and patient in His worship: knowest thou of any who is worthy of the same Name as He?" |

Arberry | Man says, 'What, when I am dead shall I then be brought forth alive?' |
Maududi | Man is prone to say: "Shall I be raised to life after I die?" |
Pickthall | And man saith: When I am dead, shall I forsooth be brought forth alive? |
Sahih | And the disbeliever says, "When I have died, am I going to be brought forth alive?" |
Yusuf Ali | Man says: "What! When I am dead, shall I then be raised up alive?" |
19.67

Arberry | Will not man remember that We created him aforetime, when he was nothing? |
Maududi | Does man not remember that We created him before when he was nothing? |
Pickthall | Doth not man remember that We created him before, when he was naught? |
Sahih | Does man not remember that We created him before, while he was nothing? |
Yusuf Ali | But does not man call to mind that We created him before out of nothing? |
19.68
surah 19 - verse 68

Arberry | Now, by thy Lord, We shall surely muster them, and the Satans, then We shall parade them about Gehenna hobbling on their knees. |
Maududi | By your Lord, We will surely muster them and the devils together. Then We will surely bring them all, on their knees, around Hell, |
Pickthall | And, by thy Lord, verily We shall assemble them and the devils, then We shall bring them, crouching, around hell. |
Sahih | So by your Lord, We will surely gather them and the devils; then We will bring them to be present around Hell upon their knees. |
Yusuf Ali | So, by thy Lord, without doubt, We shall gather them together, and (also) the Evil Ones (with them); then shall We bring them forth on their knees round about Hell; |
19.69
surah 19 - verse 69

Arberry | Then We shall pluck forth from every party whichever of them was the most hardened in disdain of the All-merciful; |
Maududi | and then We will draw aside from each party those who were most rebellious against the Most Compassionate Lord, |
Pickthall | Then We shall pluck out from every sect whichever of them was most stubborn in rebellion to the Beneficent. |
Sahih | Then We will surely extract from every sect those of them who were worst against the Most Merciful in insolence. |
Yusuf Ali | Then shall We certainly drag out from every sect all those who were worst in obstinate rebellion against (Allah) Most Gracious. |
19.70

Arberry | then We shall know very well those most deserving to burn there. |
Maududi | and then We shall know well all those most worthy to be cast in Hell. |
Pickthall | And surely We are Best Aware of those most worthy to be burned therein. |
Sahih | Then, surely it is We who are most knowing of those most worthy of burning therein. |
Yusuf Ali | And certainly We know best those who are most worthy of being burned therein. |
19.71
surah 19 - verse 71

Arberry | Not one of you there is, but he shall go down to it; that for thy Lord is a thing decreed, determined. |
Maududi | There is not one of you but shall pass by Hell. This is a decree which your Lord will fulfil. |
Pickthall | There is not one of you but shall approach it. That is a fixed ordinance of thy Lord. |
Sahih | And there is none of you except he will come to it. This is upon your Lord an inevitability decreed. |
Yusuf Ali | Not one of you but will pass over it: this is, with thy Lord, a Decree which must be accomplished. |
19.72
surah 19 - verse 72

Arberry | Then We shall deliver those that were godfearing; and the evildoers We shall leave there, hobbling on their knees. |
Maududi | Then We shall deliver those that feared Allah and leave the wrong-doers there on their knees. |
Pickthall | Then We shall rescue those who kept from evil, and leave the evil-doers crouching there. |
Sahih | Then We will save those who feared Allah and leave the wrongdoers within it, on their knees. |
Yusuf Ali | But We shall save those who guarded against evil, and We shall leave the wrong-doers therein, (humbled) to their knees. |
19.73

Arberry | When Our signs are recited to them as clear signs, the unbelievers say to the believers, 'Which of the two parties is better in station, fairer in assembly?' |
Maududi | When Our clear revelations are recited to those who deny the Truth they are wont to say to those who have faith: "Which of the two groups has a better status and whose assemblies are grander?" |
Pickthall | And when Our clear revelations are recited unto them, those who disbelieve say unto those who believe: Which of the two parties (yours or ours) is better in position, and more imposing as an army? |
Sahih | And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Which of [our] two parties is best in position and best in association?" |
Yusuf Ali | When Our Clear Signs are rehearsed to them, the Unbelievers say to those who believe, "Which of the two sides is best in point of position? Which makes the best show in council?" |
19.74
surah 19 - verse 74

Arberry | And how many a generation We destroyed before them, who were fairer in furnishing and outward show! |
Maududi | How numerous are the peoples We destroyed before them - those that were more resourceful and grander in outward appearance! |
Pickthall | How many a generation have We destroyed before them, who were more imposing in respect of gear and outward seeming! |
Sahih | And how many a generation have We destroyed before them who were better in possessions and [outward] appearance? |
Yusuf Ali | But how many (countless) generations before them have we destroyed, who were even better in equipment and in glitter to the eye? |
19.75
surah 19 - verse 75

Arberry | Say: 'Whosoever is in error, let the All-merciful prolong his term for him! Till, when they see that they were threatened, whether the chastisement, or the Hour, then they shall surely know who is worse in place, and who is weaker in hosts.' |
Maududi | Say: "The Most Compassionate Lord grants respite to those who stray into error, until they behold what they had been threatened with, either God's chastisement (in the world) or the Hour (of Resurrection)" - then they fully know whose station is worse, and who is weaker in hosts! |
Pickthall | Say: As for him who is in error, the Beneficent will verily prolong his span of life until, when they behold that which they were promised, whether it be punishment (in the world), or the Hour (of doom), they will know who is worse in position and who is weaker as an army. |
Sahih | Say, "Whoever is in error - let the Most Merciful extend for him an extension [in wealth and time] until, when they see that which they were promised - either punishment [in this world] or the Hour [of resurrection] - they will come to know who is worst in position and weaker in soldiers." |
Yusuf Ali | Say: "If any men go astray, (Allah) Most Gracious extends (the rope) to them, until, when they see the warning of Allah (being fulfilled) - either in punishment or in (the approach of) the Hour,- they will at length realise who is worst in position, and (who) weakest in forces! |
19.76
surah 19 - verse 76

Arberry | And God shall increase those who were guided in guidance; and the abiding things, the deeds of righteousness, are better with thy Lord in reward, and better in return |
Maududi | (On the contrary), Allah increases in guidance those who follow the Right Way. Lasting acts of righteousness are better in the sight of your Lord as reward and conducive to a better end. |
Pickthall | Allah increaseth in right guidance those who walk aright, and the good deeds which endure are better in thy Lord's sight for reward, and better for resort. |
Sahih | And Allah increases those who were guided, in guidance, and the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for recourse. |
Yusuf Ali | "And Allah doth advance in guidance those who seek guidance: and the things that endure, Good Deeds, are best in the sight of thy Lord, as rewards, and best in respect of (their) eventual return." |
19.77
surah 19 - verse 77

Arberry | Hast thou seen him who disbelieves in Our signs and says, 'Assuredly I shall be given wealth and children'? |
Maududi | Have you seen him who rejected Our signs and said: "Surely I shall continue to be favoured with riches and children." |
Pickthall | Hast thou seen him who disbelieveth in Our revelations and saith: Assuredly I shall be given wealth and children? |
Sahih | Then, have you seen he who disbelieved in Our verses and said, "I will surely be given wealth and children [in the next life]?" |
Yusuf Ali | Hast thou then seen the (sort of) man who rejects Our Signs, yet says: "I shall certainly be given wealth and children?" |
19.78

Arberry | What, has he observed the Unseen, or taken a covenant with the All-merciful? |
Maududi | Has he obtained knowledge of the Unseen, or has he taken a covenant with the Most Compassionate Lord? |
Pickthall | Hath he perused the Unseen, or hath he made a pact with the Beneficent? |
Sahih | Has he looked into the unseen, or has he taken from the Most Merciful a promise? |
Yusuf Ali | Has he penetrated to the Unseen, or has he taken a contract with (Allah) Most Gracious? |
19.79
surah 19 - verse 79

Arberry | No, indeed! We shall assuredly write down all that he says, and We shall prolong for him the chastisement; |
Maududi | By no means! We shall write down all what he says; and We shall greatly prolong his chastisement, |
Pickthall | Nay, but We shall record that which he saith and prolong for him a span of torment. |
Sahih | No! We will record what he says and extend for him from the punishment extensively. |
Yusuf Ali | Nay! We shall record what he says, and We shall add and add to his punishment. |
19.80
surah 19 - verse 80

Arberry | and We shall inherit from him that he says, and he shall come to Us alone. |
Maududi | and We shall inherit all the resources and hosts of which he boasts, and he will come to Us all alone. |
Pickthall | And We shall inherit from him that whereof he spake, and he will come unto Us, alone (without his wealth and children). |
Sahih | And We will inherit him [in] what he mentions, and he will come to Us alone. |
Yusuf Ali | To Us shall return all that he talks of and he shall appear before Us bare and alone. |
