38.61
surah 38 - verse 61

| Maududi | They will say: “Our Lord, give twofold punishment in the Fire to him who has led us to this.” |
| Pickthall | They say: Our Lord! Whoever did prepare this for us, oh, give him double portion of the Fire! |
| Sahih | They will say, "Our Lord, whoever brought this upon us - increase for him double punishment in the Fire." |
| Yusuf Ali | They will say: "Our Lord! whoever brought this upon us,- Add to him a double Penalty in the Fire!" |

| Arberry | They say, 'How is it with us, that we do not see men here that we counted among the wicked? |
| Maududi | They will say to one another: “But why do we not see those whom we considered him among the wicked? |
| Pickthall | And they say: What aileth us that we behold not men whom we were wont to count among the wicked? |
| Sahih | And they will say, "Why do we not see men whom we used to count among the worst? |
| Yusuf Ali | And they will say: "What has happened to us that we see not men whom we used to number among the bad ones? |

| Arberry | What, did we take them for a laughing-stock? Or have our eyes swerved away from them?' |
| Maududi | Is it that we mistakenly made fun of them; or have they disappeared from our sight?” |

| Sahih | Is it [because] we took them in ridicule, or has [our] vision turned away from them?" |
| Yusuf Ali | "Did we treat them (as such) in ridicule, or have (our) eyes failed to perceive them?" |

| Maududi | Verily all this is true. This is how the inmates of the Fire will dispute among themselves. |

| Sahih | Indeed, that is truth - the quarreling of the people of the Fire. |
| Yusuf Ali | Truly that is just and fitting,- the mutual recriminations of the People of the Fire! |

| Arberry | Said He, 'Iblis, what prevented thee to bow thyself before that I created with My own hands? Hast thou waxed proud, or art thou of the lofty ones?' |
| Maududi | The Lord said: “O Iblis, what prevented you from prostrating yourself before him whom I created of My Two Hands. Are you waxing proud, or fancy yourself to be too exalted?” |
| Pickthall | He said: O Iblis! What hindereth thee from falling prostrate before that which I have created with both My hands? Art thou too proud or art thou of the high exalted? |
| Sahih | [Allah] said, "O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands? Were you arrogant [then], or were you [already] among the haughty?" |
| Yusuf Ali | (Allah) said: "O Iblis! What prevents thee from prostrating thyself to one whom I have created with my hands? Art thou haughty? Or art thou one of the high (and mighty) ones?" |

| Maududi | He replied: “I am nobler than he. You created me from fire and created him from clay.” |

| Sahih | He said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay." |
| Yusuf Ali | (Iblis) said: "I am better than he: thou createdst me from fire, and him thou createdst from clay." |

| Yusuf Ali | (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here: for thou art rejected, accursed. |

| Yusuf Ali | (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised." |
