Surah Al Muminoon (The Believers)
23.101
surah 23 - verse 101

Arberry | For when the Trumpet is blown, that day there shall be no kinship any more between them, neither will they question one another. |
Maududi | And then no sooner the Trumpet is blown than there will remain no kinship among them that Day, nor will they ask one another. |
Pickthall | And when the trumpet is blown there will be no kinship among them that day, nor will they ask of one another. |
Sahih | So when the Horn is blown, no relationship will there be among them that Day, nor will they ask about one another. |
Yusuf Ali | Then when the Trumpet is blown, there will be no more relationships between them that Day, nor will one ask after another! |
23.102
surah 23 - verse 102

Arberry | Then he whose scales are heavy -- they are the prosperers, |
Maududi | It will be an Hour when those whose scales are heavy, they alone will attain success; |
Pickthall | Then those whose scales are heavy, they are the successful. |
Sahih | And those whose scales are heavy [with good deeds] - it is they who are the successful. |
Yusuf Ali | Then those whose balance (of good deeds) is heavy,- they will attain salvation: |

Arberry | and he whose scales are light -- they have lost their souls in Gehenna dwelling forever, |
Maududi | and those whose scales are light, those will be the ones who will have courted loss. They will abide in Hell. |
Pickthall | And those whose scales are light are those who lose their souls, in hell abiding. |
Sahih | But those whose scales are light - those are the ones who have lost their souls, [being] in Hell, abiding eternally. |
Yusuf Ali | But those whose balance is light, will be those who have lost their souls, in Hell will they abide. |
23.104

Arberry | the Fire smiting their faces the while they glower there. |
Maududi | The Fire shall scorch their faces, exposing their jaws. |
Pickthall | The fire burneth their faces, and they are glum therein. |
Sahih | The Fire will sear their faces, and they therein will have taut smiles. |
Yusuf Ali | The Fire will burn their faces, and they will therein grin, with their lips displaced. |

Arberry | 'What, were My signs not recited to you, and you cried them lies?' |
Maududi | "Are you not those to whom My revelations were recited, and you dubbed them as lies?" |
Pickthall | (It will be said): Were not My revelations recited unto you, and then ye used to deny them? |
Sahih | [It will be said]. "Were not My verses recited to you and you used to deny them?" |
Yusuf Ali | "Were not My Signs rehearsed to you, and ye did but treat them as falsehood?" |

Arberry | They shall say, 'Our Lord, our adversity prevailed over us; we were an erring people. |
Maududi | They will say: "Our Lord! Our misfortune prevailed over us. We were indeed an erring people. |
Pickthall | They will say: Our Lord! Our evil fortune conquered us, and we were erring folk. |
Sahih | They will say, "Our Lord, our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray. |
Yusuf Ali | They will say: "our Lord! Our misfortune overwhelmed us, and we became a people astray! |
23.107
surah 23 - verse 107

Arberry | Our Lord, bring us forth out of it! Then, if we revert, we shall be evildoers indeed.' |
Maududi | Our Lord! Take us out of this. Then if we revert (to evil-doing) we shall indeed be wrongdoers." |
Pickthall | Our Lord! Oh, bring us forth from hence! If we return (to evil) then indeed we shall be wrong-doers. |
Sahih | Our Lord, remove us from it, and if we were to return [to evil], we would indeed be wrongdoers." |
Yusuf Ali | "Our Lord! bring us out of this: if ever we return (to Evil), then shall we be wrong-doers indeed!" |

Arberry | 'Slink you into it,' He shall say, 'and do not speak to Me. |
Maududi | Allah will say: "Away from Me; stay where you are and do not address Me. |
Pickthall | He saith: Begone therein, and speak not unto Me. |
Sahih | He will say, "Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me. |
Yusuf Ali | He will say: "Be ye driven into it (with ignominy)! And speak ye not to Me! |

Arberry | There is a party of My servants who said, "Our Lord, we believe; therefore forgive us, and have mercy on us, for Thou art the best of the merciful." |
Maududi | You are those that when a party of My servants said: 'Our Lord, we believe, so forgive us, and have mercy on us, for You are the Best of those that are merciful,' |
Pickthall | Lo! there was a party of My slaves who said: Our Lord! We believe, therefor forgive us and have mercy on us for Thou art Best of all who show mercy; |
Sahih | Indeed, there was a party of My servants who said, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful.' |
Yusuf Ali | "A part of My servants there was, who used to pray 'our Lord! we believe; then do Thou forgive us, and have mercy upon us: For Thou art the Best of those who show mercy!" |

Arberry | But you took them for a laughing-stock, till they made you forget My remembrance, mocking at them. |
Maududi | you made a laughingstock of them and your hostility to them caused you to forget Me, and you simply kept laughing. |
Pickthall | But ye chose them for a laughing-stock until they caused you to forget remembrance of Me, while ye laughed at them. |
Sahih | But you took them in mockery to the point that they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them. |
Yusuf Ali | "But ye treated them with ridicule, so much so that (ridicule of) them made you forget My Message while ye were laughing at them! |
23.111

Arberry | Now today I have recompensed them for their patient endurance; they are the triumphant.' |
Maududi | Lo! I have rewarded them this Day for their steadfastness, so that they, and they alone, are triumphant." |
Pickthall | Lo! I have rewarded them this day forasmuch as they were steadfast in that they, even they, are the triumphant. |
Sahih | Indeed, I have rewarded them this Day for their patient endurance - that they are the attainers [of success]." |
Yusuf Ali | "I have rewarded them this Day for their patience and constancy: they are indeed the ones that have achieved Bliss..." |
23.112

Arberry | He shall say, 'How long have you tarried in the earth, by number of years?' |
Maududi | Then Allah will ask them: "For how many years did you stay on earth?" |
Pickthall | He will say: How long tarried ye in the earth, counting by years? |
Sahih | [Allah] will say, "How long did you remain on earth in number of years?" |
Yusuf Ali | He will say: "What number of years did ye stay on earth?" |

Maududi | They will say: "We stayed for a day or part of a day. Ask of those who keep count of this." |
Pickthall | They will say: We tarried by a day or part of a day. Ask of those who keep count! |
Sahih | They will say, "We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who enumerate." |
Yusuf Ali | They will say: "We stayed a day or part of a day: but ask those who keep account." |

Maududi | He will say: "You stayed only for a while, if you only knew that. |
Pickthall | He will say: Ye tarried but a little if ye only knew. |
Sahih | He will say, "You stayed not but a little - if only you had known. |
Yusuf Ali | He will say: "Ye stayed not but a little,- if ye had only known! |

Arberry | What, did you think that We created you only for sport, and that you would not be returned to Us?' |
Maududi | Did you imagine that We created you without any purpose, and that you will not be brought back to Us?" |
Pickthall | Deemed ye then that We had created you for naught, and that ye would not be returned unto Us? |
Sahih | Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?" |
Yusuf Ali | "Did ye then think that We had created you in jest, and that ye would not be brought back to Us (for account)?" |
23.116
surah 23 - verse 116

Arberry | Then high exalted be God, the King, the True! There is no god but He? the Lord of the noble Throne. |
Maududi | So, exalted be Allah, the True King! There is no god but He, the Lord of the Great Throne. |
Pickthall | Now Allah be Exalted, the True King! There is no Allah save Him, the Lord of the Throne of Grace. |
Sahih | So exalted is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne. |
Yusuf Ali | Therefore exalted be Allah, the King, the Reality: there is no god but He, the Lord of the Throne of Honour! |
23.117
surah 23 - verse 117

Arberry | And whosoever calls upon another god with God, whereof he has no proof, his reckoning is with his Lord; surely the unbelievers shall not prosper. |
Maududi | He who invokes any other god along with Allah " one for whom he has no evidence" his reckoning is with his Lord alone. Indeed, these unbelievers shall not prosper. |
Pickthall | He who crieth unto any other god along with Allah hath no proof thereof. His reckoning is only with his Lord. Lo! disbelievers will not be successful. |
Sahih | And whoever invokes besides Allah another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed. |
Yusuf Ali | If anyone invokes, besides Allah, Any other god, he has no authority therefor; and his reckoning will be only with his Lord! and verily the Unbelievers will fail to win through! |
23.118
surah 23 - verse 118

Arberry | And say: 'My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for Thou art the best of the merciful.' |
Maududi | And say, (O Muhammad): "My Lord, forgive us and have mercy on us, for You are the Best of those that are merciful." |
Pickthall | And (O Muhammad) say: My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for Thou art Best of all who show mercy. |
Sahih | And, [O Muhammad], say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful." |
Yusuf Ali | So say: "O my Lord! grant Thou forgiveness and mercy for Thou art the Best of those who show mercy!" |
