Surah Al Mutaffifin (Those Who Deal in Fraud)

83.21

surah 83 - verse 21

Arberry witnessed by those brought nigh.
Maududi which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard.
Pickthall Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord).
Sahih Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah].
Yusuf Ali To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah).

83.22

surah 83 - verse 22

Arberry Surely the pious shall be in bliss,
Maududi Verily the virtuous shall be in Bliss;
Pickthall Lo! the righteous verily are in delight,
Sahih Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure
Yusuf Ali Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss:

83.23

surah 83 - verse 23

Arberry upon couches gazing;
Maududi resting on couches, looking around.
Pickthall On couches, gazing,
Sahih On adorned couches, observing.
Yusuf Ali On Thrones (of Dignity) will they command a sight (of all things):

83.24

surah 83 - verse 24

Arberry thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss
Maududi You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss.
Pickthall Thou wilt know in their faces the radiance of delight.
Sahih You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure.
Yusuf Ali Thou wilt recognise in their faces the beaming brightness of Bliss.

83.25

surah 83 - verse 25

Arberry as they are given to drink of a wine sealed
Maududi They will be served a drink of the finest sealed wine,
Pickthall They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed,
Sahih They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed.
Yusuf Ali Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed:

83.26

surah 83 - verse 26

Arberry whose seal is musk -- so after that let the strivers strive --
Maududi whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that –
Pickthall Whose seal is musk - for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss -
Sahih The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete.
Yusuf Ali The seal thereof will be Musk: And for this let those aspire, who have aspirations:

83.27

Arberry and whose mixture is Tasnim,
Maududi a wine whose mixture is Tasnim,
Pickthall And mixed with water of Tasnim,
Sahih And its mixture is of Tasneem,
Yusuf Ali With it will be (given) a mixture of Tasnim:

Arberry a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh.
Maududi a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink.
Pickthall A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink.
Sahih A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink.
Yusuf Ali A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah.

83.29

surah 83 - verse 29

Arberry Behold, the sinners were laughing at the believers,
Maududi Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers:
Pickthall Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed,
Sahih Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.
Yusuf Ali Those in sin used to laugh at those who believed,

83.30

Arberry when them passed them by winking at one another,
Maududi when they passed by them they winked,
Pickthall And wink one to another when they passed them;
Sahih And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.
Yusuf Ali And whenever they passed by them, used to wink at each other (in mockery);

83.31

surah 83 - verse 31

Arberry and when they returned to their people they returned blithely,
Maududi and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting,
Pickthall And when they returned to their own folk, they returned jesting;
Sahih And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.
Yusuf Ali And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting;

83.32

surah 83 - verse 32

Arberry and when they saw them they said, 'Lo, these men are astray!'
Maududi and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”;
Pickthall And when they saw them they said: Lo! these have gone astray.
Sahih And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost."
Yusuf Ali And whenever they saw them, they would say, "Behold! These are the people truly astray!"

83.33

surah 83 - verse 33

Arberry Yet they were not sent as watchers over them.
Maududi (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them.
Pickthall Yet they were not sent as guardians over them.
Sahih But they had not been sent as guardians over them.
Yusuf Ali But they had not been sent as keepers over them!

83.34

surah 83 - verse 34

Arberry So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers,
Maududi But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers;
Pickthall This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers,
Sahih So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers,
Yusuf Ali But on this Day the Believers will laugh at the Unbelievers:

Pickthall On high couches, gazing.
Sahih On adorned couches, observing.
Yusuf Ali On Thrones (of Dignity) they will command (a sight) (of all things).

83.36

surah 83 - verse 36

Arberry Have the unbelievers been rewarded what they were doing?
Maududi Have the unbelievers been duly rewarded for their deeds?
Pickthall Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do?
Sahih Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?
Yusuf Ali Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did?
